Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
Abies yuanbaoshanensis faces severe population decline due to its extremely restricted range on Yuanbao Mountain in Guangxi Province, China. The species is threatened by habitat degradation from agricultural expansion, logging activities, and infrastructure development in the surrounding areas. Climate change poses an additional threat as warming temperatures may force this montane species to higher elevations with limited suitable habitat remaining.
Habitat
This critically endangered fir species is endemic to the montane forests of Yuanbao Mountain in Guangxi Province, southern China, occurring at elevations between 1,800-2,100 meters. It grows in mixed coniferous forests on steep mountain slopes with well-drained soils and high humidity conditions typical of subtropical montane ecosystems.
