Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
The Spot-winged Parrotlet faces severe pressure from deforestation and habitat fragmentation across its Andean cloud forest range. Mining activities and agricultural expansion have eliminated significant portions of its specialized montane habitat, while the species' small population size and restricted range make it particularly vulnerable to local extinctions. Climate change poses an additional threat by shifting the altitudinal zones where suitable cloud forest conditions persist.
Habitat
The Spot-winged Parrotlet inhabits humid montane cloud forests and forest edges at elevations between 1,200-2,400 meters in the Andes. It prefers dense canopy areas with abundant epiphytes and shows a strong association with Podocarpus and mixed cloud forest ecosystems.
