Sorbus thaiszii
Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
Sorbus thaiszii faces severe population decline due to its extremely restricted range in the Carpathian Mountains, where habitat fragmentation and degradation threaten the few remaining populations. Climate change poses an additional threat as warming temperatures may force this montane species to higher elevations with limited suitable habitat. Human activities including forestry operations and infrastructure development continue to reduce available habitat within its narrow endemic range.
Habitat
This endemic rowan species inhabits montane forests and rocky slopes in the Carpathian Mountains, typically growing at elevations between 800-1500 meters. It occurs in mixed deciduous-coniferous forests and forest edges, often on limestone substrates with well-drained soils.
