Overview

Pocillopora verrucosa is a stony coral in the family Pocilloporidae, recognizable by its branching growth form and characteristic wart-like verrucae covering the colony surface. Colonies range from pink to brown depending on symbiotic algae density and light exposure. Like other reef-building corals, it relies on a mutualistic relationship with photosynthetic zooxanthellae for energy and constructs calcium carbonate skeletons that form the physical framework of reef ecosystems, providing habitat and shelter for fish, invertebrates, and other reef organisms.
