Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
The Neretva chub faces severe pressure from habitat degradation caused by dam construction and water extraction along the Neretva River system in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Pollution from agricultural runoff and urban development has deteriorated water quality in its native tributaries. Introduction of non-native fish species has created additional competitive pressure and potential hybridization threats in its already restricted range.
Habitat
The Neretva chub inhabits clear, fast-flowing tributaries and upper reaches of the Neretva River basin in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It prefers well-oxygenated waters with rocky or gravel substrates and moderate to strong currents typical of montane river systems.
