Overview
Adelophryne maranguapensis is a species of frog in the family Eleutherodactylidae. It is endemic to Serra de Maranguape, just west of Fortaleza, in Ceará state, northeastern Brazil.
Adelophryne maranguapensis faces severe threats from urban expansion and agricultural conversion within its extremely restricted range in the Maranguape Mountains of Ceará, Brazil. The species' habitat is being rapidly fragmented by residential development and intensive farming practices, leaving only small, isolated forest patches. Climate change poses an additional threat through altered precipitation patterns that could disrupt the humid microhabitats essential for this small frog's survival.
Habitat
This species inhabits humid Atlantic Forest remnants in the Maranguape Mountains of Ceará state, Brazil, typically found in leaf litter and low vegetation within well-preserved forest fragments. It requires specific microhabitat conditions with high humidity and stable temperatures characteristic of montane Atlantic Forest ecosystems.
