Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
The Rio Suno Antwren faces severe pressure from rapid deforestation and habitat fragmentation across its limited range in the western Amazon basin. Oil extraction activities and associated infrastructure development have destroyed significant portions of its lowland rainforest habitat, while agricultural expansion continues to fragment remaining forest patches. The species' specialized foraging behavior in the forest understory makes it particularly vulnerable to habitat degradation and edge effects.
Habitat
The Rio Suno Antwren inhabits the understory and midstory of primary lowland rainforest in the western Amazon basin, typically below 400 meters elevation. It prefers dense, humid forest with complex vegetation structure and is particularly associated with areas near streams and rivers.
