Reclusive Ringtail
Pseudochirops coronatus
Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
The Green Ringtail Possum faces significant pressure from habitat fragmentation and clearing of its specialized rainforest environment across northeastern Queensland. Climate change poses an additional threat by altering the composition and distribution of the high-altitude wet sclerophyll and rainforest communities this species depends upon. Introduced predators and competition from other species further compound population pressures in remaining habitat patches.
Habitat
The Green Ringtail Possum inhabits wet sclerophyll forests and rainforest edges in the montane regions of northeastern Queensland, typically at elevations between 300-1,200 meters. This arboreal marsupial shows strong preference for areas with dense canopy cover and abundant epiphytic growth that provides both food resources and nesting sites.
