Pandanus scortechini

Declining

Overview

A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.

Pandanus scortechini faces severe pressure from rapid deforestation and agricultural conversion throughout its native range in Peninsular Malaysia and southern Thailand. The species' restricted distribution makes it particularly vulnerable to habitat fragmentation, as remaining populations become increasingly isolated in small forest patches. Urban development and palm oil plantation expansion have eliminated much of its lowland forest habitat, while logging operations continue to degrade the quality of remaining stands.

Threat summary

Habitat

This pandanus species inhabits lowland tropical rainforests and forest margins in Peninsular Malaysia and southern Thailand, typically growing in well-drained soils at elevations below 300 meters. It occurs both in primary forest understory and secondary forest regeneration areas, often near streams and in areas with high humidity.
