Miconia polyneura
Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
Miconia polyneura faces severe pressure from agricultural expansion and cattle ranching throughout its limited range in the Atlantic Forest region. Deforestation for coffee plantations and pastureland has fragmented its habitat into isolated patches, reducing population connectivity and genetic diversity. Urban development and infrastructure projects continue to encroach on remaining forest fragments where this endemic shrub persists.
Habitat
This endemic shrub inhabits the understory of Atlantic Forest remnants in southeastern Brazil, typically growing in humid montane forests between 800-1,500 meters elevation. It requires well-drained soils and partial shade conditions found in mature forest ecosystems.
