Ligusticum huteri
Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
Ligusticum huteri faces severe threats from its extremely restricted range in the Austrian Alps, where it exists in only a few known locations. Climate change poses a critical risk as warming temperatures force alpine species to migrate upward, but this endemic plant has nowhere higher to retreat. Habitat degradation from tourism infrastructure development and trampling in accessible alpine areas further compounds the species' vulnerability.
Habitat
This endemic Austrian plant inhabits high-altitude alpine meadows and rocky slopes in the Eastern Alps, typically growing in calcareous soils at elevations above 1,800 meters. It thrives in the specialized microhabitats of alpine grasslands and scree slopes where few other plant species can survive the harsh mountain conditions.
