Overview
Decantha borkhausenii is a moth of the family Oecophoridae. It is the type species of the genus Decantha, although it was once placed in the genus Oecophora. It is found in most of Europe, except Ireland, Great Britain, the Benelux, the Iberian Peninsula, most of the Balkan Peninsula, Denmark and Lithuania.
The species faces significant pressure from habitat fragmentation and the loss of its specialized host plants due to agricultural intensification and urban development. Climate change is also altering the timing of its life cycle, creating mismatches with critical food resources and potentially disrupting breeding success.
Habitat
This moth inhabits deciduous and mixed woodlands with rich understory vegetation, particularly areas with abundant flowering shrubs and its specific larval host plants. It shows a strong preference for forest edges and clearings where moonlight can penetrate the canopy.
