Overview
Bagous puncticollis is a small weevil species characterized by its distinctive punctured collar region and elongated snout typical of the Bagous genus. This aquatic weevil plays an important ecological role as both herbivore and prey species, with larvae typically developing within the stems and roots of aquatic plants while adults feed on vegetation surfaces.
Dybladsvivel faces significant threats from habitat degradation and loss of wetland ecosystems across its range. The species' dependence on specific aquatic plant hosts makes it particularly vulnerable to water pollution, drainage of wetlands, and changes in water quality that affect its breeding substrates.
Habitat
Freshwater wetlands, marshes, and slow-moving waterways where it breeds in submerged and emergent aquatic vegetation. The species is particularly associated with areas containing its host plants in the families Potamogetonaceae and other aquatic macrophytes.
