Overview
The blue-throated piping guan is a species of bird in subfamily Penelopina of family Cracidae, the guans, chachalacas, and curassows. It is found in Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, the Guianas, Peru, and Venezuela.
The Blue-throated Piping-Guan faces significant pressure from widespread deforestation and habitat fragmentation across its range in northern South America. Hunting pressure for subsistence and commercial purposes has severely reduced populations, while agricultural expansion and cattle ranching continue to eliminate critical forest habitat.
Habitat
Inhabits humid tropical lowland forests, gallery forests along rivers, and secondary forest growth from sea level to approximately 1,200m elevation. The species prefers dense canopy areas with abundant fruiting trees and is typically found in both primary and mature secondary forests.
