Blakea maguirei
Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
Blakea maguirei faces severe pressure from ongoing deforestation and habitat fragmentation within its restricted range in the Venezuelan Guayana Shield. Mining activities and agricultural expansion continue to reduce the available montane forest habitat. The species' limited distribution makes it particularly vulnerable to localized disturbances, with small population sizes unable to withstand significant habitat loss.
Habitat
This endemic shrub inhabits montane forests and cloud forests of the Venezuelan Guayana Shield, typically occurring at elevations between 1,000-2,000 meters. It grows in humid, moss-rich environments along forest edges and in secondary growth areas within the tepui region.
