Bactris timbuiensis
Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
Bactris timbuiensis faces severe pressure from deforestation and agricultural expansion within its restricted range in the Atlantic Forest of Brazil. The species' limited distribution makes it particularly vulnerable to habitat fragmentation, as palm populations become isolated in small forest remnants. Urban development and infrastructure projects continue to reduce available habitat, while the slow growth rate of this understory palm limits its ability to recover from disturbances.
Habitat
This endemic palm species inhabits the understory of Atlantic Forest remnants in southeastern Brazil, typically growing in humid, shaded conditions on well-drained soils. It occurs in both primary and secondary forest fragments, showing some tolerance for disturbed habitats within its native forest ecosystem.
