Arion iratii
Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
Arion iratii faces significant pressure from habitat degradation in its limited montane forest range in the Pyrenees. Agricultural intensification and livestock grazing have reduced the quality of its forest floor microhabitats, while climate change threatens to shift suitable temperature and moisture conditions upslope beyond available habitat. The species' restricted geographic range makes it particularly vulnerable to localized disturbances and environmental changes.
Habitat
This endemic slug inhabits moist deciduous and mixed forests in the Pyrenees mountains, typically found in leaf litter and under logs in beech and oak woodlands at elevations between 800-1,600 meters. It requires consistently humid microhabitats with rich organic soil layers and minimal disturbance.
