Alopoglossus lehmanni
Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
Alopoglossus lehmanni faces severe threats from rapid deforestation and agricultural expansion throughout its extremely limited range in the Colombian Andes. Mining activities and infrastructure development have fragmented the remaining forest patches where this endemic lizard occurs. The species' restricted distribution makes it particularly vulnerable to habitat conversion, with ongoing cattle ranching and crop cultivation eliminating suitable microhabitats.
Habitat
This endemic Colombian lizard inhabits montane cloud forests and humid forest edges in the Cordillera Oriental of the Andes, typically at elevations between 1,800-2,400 meters. It requires dense leaf litter and fallen logs in primary and secondary forest environments with high humidity levels.
