Overview

A small freshwater fish, this species rarely exceeds 7 centimetres in length, with a laterally compressed body, rounded fins, and colouration ranging from olive-brown to yellowish tones, often marked with darker mottling along the flanks. As a small-bodied predator, it feeds on aquatic invertebrates, zooplankton, and insect larvae, while also serving as prey for larger fish and birds, making it a component of freshwater food webs in the region it inhabits.
