Vriesea penduliscapa
Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
Vriesea penduliscapa faces severe pressure from habitat destruction as Atlantic Forest fragments continue to be cleared for agriculture and urban development. The species' restricted range in southeastern Brazil makes it particularly vulnerable to localized threats, with remaining populations increasingly isolated in small forest patches. Climate change poses an additional threat by altering the humid microclimatic conditions essential for this epiphytic bromeliad's survival.
Habitat
This epiphytic bromeliad inhabits the humid Atlantic Forest (Mata Atlântica) of southeastern Brazil, growing on tree trunks and branches in the forest canopy. It requires the stable, moist microclimate provided by intact forest ecosystems, typically found at elevations between 500-1200 meters.
