Somatogyrus currierianus
Overview
The Tennessee pebblesnail is a species of very small freshwater snail with an operculum. It is an aquatic gastropod mollusc in the family Lithoglyphidae.
Somatogyrus currierianus faces severe threats from habitat degradation and water quality deterioration in its limited spring-fed aquatic environments. Urban development and agricultural runoff have significantly impacted the pristine groundwater systems this species requires. The extremely restricted range makes the species particularly vulnerable to any localized environmental changes or pollution events.
Habitat
This freshwater gastropod inhabits spring-fed aquatic environments and associated groundwater systems in the southeastern United States. The species requires pristine water quality and stable hydrological conditions typical of natural spring ecosystems.
