Thickshell Pondsnail

Stagnicola utahensis

Unknown

Overview

Ladislavella utahensis, common name the thickshell pondsnail, is a species of air-breathing freshwater snail, an aquatic pulmonate gastropod mollusc in the family Lymnaeidae, the pond snails. This species is endemic to Utah Lake in the United States. The last living snails were found in the early 1930s.

Stagnicola utahensis faces severe threats from habitat degradation and water diversions affecting the freshwater springs and seeps it depends upon. Agricultural development and groundwater extraction have reduced water levels in critical habitats, while introduced species and pollution from agricultural runoff further compromise the limited aquatic environments this endemic snail requires for survival.

Threat summary
