Fat-whorled Pondsnail
Stagnicola bonnevillensis
Overview
Ladislavella bonnevillensis is a species of air-breathing freshwater snail, an aquatic pulmonate gastropod mollusc in the family Lymnaeidae, the pond snails.
Stagnicola bonnevillensis faces severe threats from habitat degradation and water level fluctuations in its extremely limited range within the Great Salt Lake basin. Agricultural diversions, municipal water extraction, and drought conditions have dramatically reduced available freshwater habitats. The species' restriction to a few isolated spring systems makes it exceptionally vulnerable to localized disturbances and water quality changes.
Habitat
This freshwater snail inhabits springs, seeps, and associated wetlands in the Bonneville Basin of Utah and adjacent areas. It requires clean, cool freshwater environments with stable water levels and abundant aquatic vegetation.
