Overview
Procambarus attiguus, known as the Silver Glen Springs cave crayfish, is a species of crayfish in the family Cambaridae. It is endemic to Silver Glen Springs, Marion County, Florida, and is listed as critically endangered on the IUCN Red List.
Procambarus attiguus faces severe threats from habitat destruction due to urban development and agricultural expansion in its limited range. Water pollution from agricultural runoff and urban stormwater significantly degrades the water quality of its freshwater habitats. The species' extremely restricted distribution makes it particularly vulnerable to local environmental changes and catastrophic events.
Habitat
This freshwater crayfish inhabits small streams, springs, and associated wetland areas in southeastern United States. It requires clean, well-oxygenated water with suitable substrate for burrowing and shelter.
