Roupala percoriacea
Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
Roupala percoriacea faces severe pressure from deforestation and agricultural expansion throughout its limited range in Brazil's Atlantic Forest. The species' restricted distribution makes it particularly vulnerable to habitat fragmentation, as remaining forest patches become increasingly isolated. Mining activities and urban development further reduce available habitat, while the slow growth rate typical of Proteaceae species limits the population's ability to recover from disturbances.
Habitat
This endemic Brazilian tree species inhabits remnant Atlantic Forest fragments, typically growing in montane and submontane forests at elevations between 500-1,200 meters. It occurs in both primary and secondary forest formations, showing preference for well-drained soils on hillsides and ridges within the highly threatened Atlantic Forest biome.
