Procambarus morrisi
Overview
Procambarus morrisi, the Putnam County cave crayfish, is a species of crayfish in the family Cambaridae. It is only known from the type locality, at the Devil's Sink, west of Interlachen, Putnam County, Florida, and is listed as critically endangered on the IUCN Red List.
Procambarus morrisi faces severe threats from habitat destruction due to urban development and agricultural expansion in its limited range. Water pollution from agricultural runoff and urban stormwater significantly degrades the water quality of its freshwater habitats. The species' extremely restricted distribution makes it particularly vulnerable to localized environmental changes and catastrophic events.
Habitat
This freshwater crayfish inhabits small streams, springs, and associated wetland areas in specific geological formations. It requires clean, well-oxygenated water with suitable substrate for burrowing and shelter.
