Cycas tansachana
Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
Cycas tansachana faces severe population decline due to overcollection for horticultural trade, as cycads are highly prized ornamental plants. Habitat destruction from agricultural expansion and urban development in its limited range has further reduced available growing sites. The species' extremely slow growth rate and reproductive cycle make recovery from population losses exceptionally difficult, with individual plants taking decades to reach maturity.
Habitat
This cycad species inhabits tropical limestone karst formations and rocky outcrops in northern Vietnam. It grows in well-drained soils among limestone cliffs and forest margins, typically in areas with high humidity and partial shade.
