Pouteria stenophylla
Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
Pouteria stenophylla faces significant pressure from deforestation and agricultural expansion throughout its native range in the Atlantic Forest of Brazil. The species' narrow habitat requirements make it particularly vulnerable to forest fragmentation, as remaining populations become isolated in small forest patches. Mining activities and urban development have further reduced available habitat, while the tree's valuable timber has led to selective logging pressure in some areas.
Habitat
This species is endemic to the Atlantic Forest (Mata Atlântica) of southeastern Brazil, where it grows in humid lowland and montane forests. It typically occurs in primary and well-preserved secondary forests with rich, well-drained soils at elevations ranging from sea level to approximately 1,000 meters.
