Peperomia dauleana
Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
Peperomia dauleana faces severe threats from rapid urban expansion and agricultural conversion in its extremely limited range around Daule, Ecuador. The species' restriction to specific microhabitats within humid lowland forests makes it particularly vulnerable to habitat fragmentation and edge effects. Ongoing deforestation for banana plantations and urban development continues to reduce the already tiny remaining habitat patches.
Habitat
This endemic epiphytic herb inhabits humid lowland forests in the coastal region of Ecuador, typically growing on tree trunks and branches in shaded understory conditions. The species requires specific moisture and microclimate conditions found only in intact forest fragments near Daule.
