Mollinedia dolichotricha
Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
Mollinedia dolichotricha faces severe pressure from ongoing deforestation and habitat fragmentation within its restricted range in the Atlantic Forest of southeastern Brazil. Agricultural expansion, particularly cattle ranching and crop cultivation, continues to reduce and isolate remaining forest patches where this endemic shrub occurs. The species' limited distribution makes it especially vulnerable to localized habitat destruction and edge effects from surrounding cleared areas.
Habitat
This endemic species inhabits montane Atlantic Forest remnants in southeastern Brazil, typically occurring in humid forest understory and forest edges at elevations between 800-1,200 meters. It grows as a shrub or small tree in the dense, biodiverse Atlantic Forest ecosystem that has been reduced to less than 12% of its original extent.
