Miconia lenticellata faces severe threats from ongoing deforestation and habitat fragmentation within its extremely limited range in the Atlantic Forest of Brazil. Agricultural expansion, particularly cattle ranching and crop cultivation, continues to reduce and isolate the remaining forest patches where this endemic shrub survives. The species' restricted distribution makes it exceptionally vulnerable to local extinctions from even small-scale habitat disturbances.
Habitat
This endemic shrub inhabits the understory and edges of Atlantic Forest remnants in southeastern Brazil, typically growing in humid montane forests between 800-1,200 meters elevation. It requires well-drained soils and partial shade conditions characteristic of secondary growth areas within the highly fragmented Atlantic Forest biome.
