Memecylon kunstleri
Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
Memecylon kunstleri faces severe pressure from rapid deforestation and habitat conversion throughout its limited range in Peninsular Malaysia and southern Thailand. The species' restriction to lowland and hill dipterocarp forests makes it particularly vulnerable to logging operations and agricultural expansion, especially oil palm plantations. Urban development and infrastructure projects further fragment remaining forest patches, isolating populations and reducing genetic diversity.
Habitat
This endemic shrub species inhabits lowland and hill dipterocarp forests up to 800 meters elevation. It typically grows in the understory of primary and mature secondary forests with high humidity and rich, well-drained soils.
