Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
The Medium Tree Finch faces severe threats primarily from invasive parasites, habitat degradation, and extremely limited range. The species is critically endangered due to the devastating impact of the introduced parasitic fly Philornis downsi, which kills nestlings, combined with habitat loss from invasive plant species and human activities on its restricted range in the Galápagos Islands.
Habitat
Endemic to Floreana Island in the Galápagos archipelago, inhabiting humid highland forests and woodland areas with native vegetation including Scalesia trees and other endemic plant species. The species requires dense canopy cover and is restricted to the remaining patches of native forest habitat on the island.
