Eleutherodactylus furcyensis
Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
Eleutherodactylus furcyensis faces severe threats from habitat destruction due to agricultural expansion and charcoal production in Haiti's montane forests. The species' extremely restricted range on Pic la Selle makes it particularly vulnerable to localized environmental changes. Deforestation for subsistence farming and fuel wood collection has fragmented the remaining cloud forest habitat, while climate change threatens to shift suitable temperature and moisture conditions upslope beyond the species' current range.
Habitat
This species inhabits montane cloud forests and pine forests at elevations between 1,500-2,674 meters on Pic la Selle in Haiti. It requires cool, moist conditions typical of high-elevation tropical forests with dense canopy cover and abundant leaf litter.
