Jupunba aspleniifolia
Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
Jupunba aspleniifolia faces significant pressure from deforestation and habitat fragmentation across its limited range in the Atlantic Forest of Brazil. Agricultural expansion, particularly cattle ranching and soybean cultivation, continues to reduce the remaining forest patches where this species occurs. Urban development and infrastructure projects further fragment the already restricted habitat, isolating populations and reducing genetic diversity.
Habitat
This species inhabits the understory and mid-canopy of Atlantic Forest remnants in southeastern Brazil, typically occurring in humid montane forests between 800-1,500 meters elevation. It shows preference for areas with dense canopy cover and high epiphyte diversity, particularly in forest fragments that maintain connectivity to larger protected areas.
