Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
The Grey-breasted Flycatcher faces severe pressure from rapid deforestation and agricultural expansion throughout its restricted range in northwestern Peru and southwestern Ecuador. Habitat conversion for cattle ranching and crop cultivation has fragmented the dry forest ecosystems this species depends upon. Mining activities and urban development further reduce available habitat, while the species' small population size makes it particularly vulnerable to local extinctions from habitat disturbance.
Habitat
This flycatcher inhabits dry deciduous forests and woodland edges in the Tumbesian region, typically at elevations between 100-1,200 meters. It prefers areas with dense understory vegetation and forest clearings where it can forage for insects from low perches.
