Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
The Fork-tailed Tody-tyrant faces severe pressure from rapid deforestation and habitat fragmentation across its Atlantic Forest range in southeastern Brazil. Agricultural expansion, particularly cattle ranching and sugarcane cultivation, has eliminated vast areas of suitable forest habitat. Urban development and infrastructure projects continue to fragment remaining forest patches, isolating populations and reducing breeding success.
Habitat
This species inhabits the understory and mid-story of humid Atlantic Forest remnants in southeastern Brazil, preferring dense secondary growth and forest edges with thick vegetation. It requires continuous forest cover with adequate insect prey availability in the lower canopy layers.
