Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
Idea electra faces mounting pressure from deforestation and habitat fragmentation across its Southeast Asian range, particularly affecting the lowland and hill forests where its host plants thrive. Agricultural expansion and palm oil plantations have eliminated significant portions of suitable habitat, while collection pressure for the butterfly trade compounds population declines. Climate change poses an additional threat by altering the distribution of native Apocynaceae plants that larvae depend upon for survival.
Habitat
Idea electra inhabits tropical lowland and hill forests up to 800 meters elevation, primarily in primary and secondary forest areas with abundant Apocynaceae host plants. The species requires intact forest canopy and understory vegetation that supports both adult nectar sources and larval food plants.
