Overview
The Dalhousie goby is a species of goby endemic to Australia where it lives in the Dalhousie Springs. This species can reach a standard length of 4.5 centimetres (1.8 in). It feeds on small molluscs, crustaceans and other odds and ends like most other gobies.
Chlamydogobius gloveri faces severe threats from habitat degradation and water extraction in its extremely limited range. The species is restricted to a few artesian springs in South Australia's Great Artesian Basin, making it highly vulnerable to groundwater depletion and pollution. Mining activities and pastoral development in the region pose additional risks through habitat modification and water quality impacts.
Habitat
This endemic goby inhabits artesian springs and associated wetlands in the arid regions of South Australia. The species requires permanent freshwater springs with specific temperature and salinity conditions typical of the Great Artesian Basin's spring complexes.
