Cyrtodactylus phuketensis
Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
Cyrtodactylus phuketensis faces severe pressure from rapid tourism development and urbanization across Phuket Island, which has destroyed much of its natural limestone karst habitat. The species' extremely restricted range makes it particularly vulnerable to habitat fragmentation, while collection for the international pet trade poses an additional threat to remaining populations.
Habitat
This gecko is endemic to limestone karst formations and caves on Phuket Island, Thailand, where it inhabits rock crevices and cave systems in tropical lowland areas. The species shows strong preference for undisturbed limestone outcrops with adequate moisture and invertebrate prey availability.
