Overview

Hakea aculeata is a woody shrub in the Proteaceae family, distinguished by its unusual flattened, elongated stems that function as photosynthetic organs, with true leaves reduced or absent in mature growth. Like other members of its genus, it produces small cream to white flowers followed by hard, woody seed capsules (follicles) that typically remain closed on the plant until triggered to release seed, often after fire.
