Ceratostema nodosum
Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
Ceratostema nodosum faces significant pressure from habitat conversion as cloud forests are cleared for agriculture and cattle ranching throughout its Andean range. The species' restricted elevational distribution makes it particularly vulnerable to climate change, as warming temperatures force suitable habitat upslope into increasingly fragmented areas. Mining activities and infrastructure development in montane regions further fragment remaining populations.
Habitat
This epiphytic shrub inhabits cloud forests and humid montane forests at elevations between 1,500-3,000 meters in the Andes. It grows on moss-covered tree branches and rocky outcrops in areas with persistent fog and high humidity.
