Burmeistera racemiflora
Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
Burmeistera racemiflora faces significant pressure from habitat destruction as cloud forests across its Colombian range are cleared for agriculture and cattle ranching. The species' restricted distribution in montane ecosystems makes it particularly vulnerable to climate change, as warming temperatures force suitable habitat zones upslope with limited available area. Fragmentation of remaining forest patches further isolates populations and reduces genetic diversity.
Habitat
This endemic Colombian species inhabits cloud forests and humid montane forests at elevations between 1,800-3,200 meters in the Cordillera Oriental. It grows in the understory and forest edges of these mist-shrouded ecosystems where consistent moisture and cool temperatures create ideal conditions.
