Bocquillonia grandidens
Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
Bocquillonia grandidens faces significant pressure from habitat degradation due to mining activities and urban development across its limited range in New Caledonia. The species' restriction to ultramafic soils makes it particularly vulnerable to nickel mining operations, which directly destroy its specialized habitat. Invasive plant species further threaten native vegetation communities where this endemic shrub occurs.
Habitat
This endemic New Caledonian shrub is restricted to ultramafic soils in maquis shrubland and low forest formations. It typically occurs on serpentine substrates at elevations between 200-800 meters in the southern province of Grande Terre.
