Betta mandor
Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
Betta mandor faces severe habitat degradation from palm oil plantation expansion and logging activities throughout its native range in Borneo. Water pollution from agricultural runoff and mining operations has contaminated the shallow forest streams this species depends on for breeding and survival. The species' extremely limited distribution makes it particularly vulnerable to localized habitat destruction, with entire populations potentially eliminated by single development projects.
Habitat
Betta mandor inhabits shallow, slow-moving forest streams and swampy areas in lowland tropical rainforests of Borneo. The species prefers areas with dense vegetation cover, soft substrates, and slightly acidic water conditions typical of Southeast Asian peat swamp forests.
