Overview

Banksia vincentia is a low-growing shrub in the family Proteaceae, discovered and formally described only in 2014 after being distinguished from closely related banksia species. It produces the characteristic cylindrical flower spikes of the genus, composed of densely packed small flowers that later develop into woody seed-bearing cones. Like other banksias, it plays a role in supporting nectar-feeding insects and birds, and its seed release is closely tied to fire cycles, with follicles typically opening after heat exposure.

The species is known only from a very small area near Jervis Bay in New South Wales, Australia, where it grows in shrubland habitat on sandy soils. Its extremely restricted distribution makes it one of the rarest banksias in existence, with only a handful of small populations recorded.
