Overview

Banksia verticillata is a woody shrub or small tree reaching several metres in height, characterized by its dense, cylindrical flower spikes that emerge in shades of cream to golden-yellow, maturing into large, woody seed-bearing cones known as follicles. Its narrow, serrated leaves are arranged in whorls along the branches, a feature reflected in its species name. The plant plays a significant ecological role as a nectar source for birds, insects, and small mammals, and its persistent seed banks, retained within fire-resistant follicles, allow for regeneration following disturbance.
