Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
Anolis vanzolinii faces severe threats from rapid deforestation and habitat fragmentation in its restricted range within Brazil's Atlantic Forest. Urban expansion and agricultural conversion have eliminated much of its original forest habitat, while the species' small population size makes it extremely vulnerable to local extinctions. Climate change poses additional pressure through altered precipitation patterns affecting the humid microhabitats this anole requires.
Habitat
This critically endangered anole is endemic to the Atlantic Forest (Mata Atlântica) of southeastern Brazil, where it inhabits humid lowland and montane forests. The species requires dense forest canopy and specific microhabitat conditions including adequate moisture levels and temperature regulation provided by intact forest structure.
