Xyris ramboi
Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
Xyris ramboi faces severe threats from agricultural expansion and cattle ranching activities that have fragmented and destroyed much of its native grassland habitat in southern Brazil. Urban development pressures around Porto Alegre have further reduced available habitat patches. The species' extremely restricted range makes it particularly vulnerable to localized disturbances, with remaining populations confined to small, isolated fragments of campo grassland that continue to face conversion pressure.
Habitat
Xyris ramboi is endemic to campo grasslands and wet meadows in Rio Grande do Sul state, Brazil, typically growing in seasonally moist sandy soils. The species occurs in open grassland communities associated with temporary pools and marshy areas within the Pampa biome.
