Vochysia assua
Overview
A detailed profile for this species is sourced from the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as assessments become available.
Vochysia assua faces significant pressure from deforestation and agricultural expansion throughout its Atlantic Forest range in southeastern Brazil. The species' restricted distribution makes it particularly vulnerable to habitat fragmentation, as remaining forest patches become increasingly isolated. Mining activities and urban development in the region pose additional threats to the remaining populations of this endemic tree species.
Habitat
Vochysia assua is endemic to the Atlantic Forest (Mata Atlântica) of southeastern Brazil, occurring in humid montane and submontane forests. The species typically grows in well-drained soils on slopes and ridges within this highly threatened biodiversity hotspot.
